NYSC DG Cautions Corps Members Against Unnecessary Journeys

Cursory: Brig. Gen. Yushau Ahmed, NYSC Director-General, urged corps members to avoid unnecessary journeys, emphasized NYSC’s commitment to their welfare and security, discouraged relocation, and promoted engagement in SAED programs.

Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has cautioned corps members against undertaking unnecessary trips that could potentially subject them to accidents, kidnappings, and other hazards.

According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Director-General reiterated this advice on Wednesday during his address to corps members and camp officials at the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Iseyin, Oyo State. He reaffirmed the NYSC management’s dedication to ensuring the sufficient welfare and security of all corps members across the nation.

He also advised corps members to desist from requesting unnecessary relocation to other states, which could deprive them of smooth service year experience. The D-G urged them to actively participate in the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) trainings, adding that NYSC had partnered with banks and notable foundations on interest-free loans for corps members with marketable skills and innovative ideas.

“Before the commencement of the orientation exercise, the security agencies have given us assurances that they are sending patrols and guards around the route to orientation camps to secure the prospective corps members coming for the orientation programme.

“Since the commencement of this Batch A Stream I orientation course, we have not recorded any security challenges.“NYSC, with collaborative institutes, has organised technologically driven skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development training to make corps members self-reliant rather than job seekers.

“The training will ultimately transform them into employers of labour,” he said.

The NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mr Abel Odoba, commended corps members for their impressive and mature display of character since the commencement of the orientation exercise.

Odoba further mentioned that the corps members had been actively participating in all camp activities, with full cooperation from camp officials and security agencies.

However, he appealed to the Director-General and other philanthropic Nigerians for assistance in completing a 5,000-capacity state-of-the-art multipurpose hall intended for the use of corps members during the orientation course at the camp.
