Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the suspected murder of University of Jos student Daniel Umar Izang, whose body was found with signs of violence at an off-campus hostel, prompting an ongoing police investigation.

The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two individuals in connection with the suspected murder of Daniel Umar Izang, a 29-year-old student of the University of Jos, whose death has sparked concern across the campus community and beyond.
Izang, a final-year student in the Faculty of Social Sciences, was found dead on August 2, 2025, at the Rusau Village Hostel, a private off-campus residence commonly used by students. His body was reportedly discovered by fellow students who raised an alarm upon noticing his prolonged absence and the unusual silence from his room.
According to police spokesperson DSP Alfred Alabo, the victim was immediately transported to Asibiti Clinic, a nearby medical facility, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The University’s Chief Security Officer, Agama Tangur, subsequently filed a formal report with the police on August 4, prompting a swift investigation.
Preliminary investigations revealed multiple signs of physical trauma on the victim’s body, suggesting that his death was not accidental. Law enforcement officers, in collaboration with the university’s security department, conducted a search of the premises, during which they apprehended two suspects: 25-year-old Moses Joel and Naanmang Kadaura, both believed to be known to the deceased.
While details of the motive remain unclear, authorities have confirmed that both suspects are currently in custody and are assisting with the investigation. Their relationship with the victim and their presence at the scene are key elements being scrutinized by detectives.
The remains of Daniel Izang have been deposited at the Plateau Specialists Hospital morgue, where an autopsy will be conducted to establish the exact cause and time of death. The University of Jos has expressed deep sorrow over the incident and assured students and parents of its full cooperation with the ongoing police inquiry.
Police officials have urged anyone with additional information regarding the incident to come forward, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring justice is served.
As of the time of reporting, the investigation is still active, with authorities promising to release more details as they become available.
