NSUK Senate Approves New Programmes in Health, Engineering and Climate Sciences

NSUK Senate has Approved Major Expansion of Academic Programmes Across Health, Engineering, and Climate Sciences.

In a monumental stride toward academic diversification and global competitiveness, the Senate of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, has approved the establishment of several cutting-edge undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

These approvals, granted across the 136th, 137th, and 138th Regular Meetings, reflect the University’s commitment to producing specialists in high-demand fields such as Medical Sciences, Engineering, and Climate Change.

Medical & Allied Health Sciences Expansion

To further strengthen the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, Senate has approved key professional degrees:

  • Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.N.Sc.): To be domiciled in the Department of Nursing Science.
  • Bachelor of Radiography (B.Rad.): To be domiciled in the Department of Radiography and Radiation Sciences.

Amina Mohammed Centre for Climate Change (AM3C)

In response to global environmental challenges, the Senate approved high-level Ph.D. and M.Sc. academic programmes in:

  • Climate Change and Precision Agriculture Innovation
  • Agroecology and Ecosystem Services
  • Climate Finance & Policy
  • Climate Change, Gender & Global Health

Faculty of Engineering: New Frontiers

The Faculty of Engineering is set to expand its footprint with the introduction of two core engineering disciplines:

  • B.Eng. Mining Engineering: Leveraging the mineral-rich landscape of Nasarawa State.
  • B.Eng. Mechanical Engineering: A foundational addition to the University’s technological offerings.

Specialized Education & Humanities

The University is also deepening its impact in inclusive education and specialized professional studies:

  • Department of Special Education (Ph.D. Level):
  • Learning Disabilities (LD)
  • Hearing Impairment (HD)
  • Visual Impairment (VI)
  • Department of Islam and Development Studies:
  • Postgraduate Diploma & Professional Masters in Zakat, WAQF, and Islamic Finance.
  • Faculty of Communication and Media Studies:
  • Professional Masters in Public Relations: Domiciled in the Department of Mass Communication.
