“37-Year-Old Nigerian Man Stuns Many as He Scores Higher in 2026 UTME After 16 Years and Plans Return to School”

A 37-year-old Nigerian man has sparked reactions online after sharing that he retook the 2026 UTME after 16 years, scored 285 (higher than his previous 261), and plans to return to university to study English Language despite minimal preparation.

A 37-year-old Nigerian man has generated widespread reactions on social media after proudly sharing his 2026 UTME result online, revealing his determination to return to school more than 16 years after his first attempt at the examination.

The man, identified on X (formerly Twitter) as @UsulorIsraelM, explained that he originally sat for JAMB about 16 years ago and had previously completed a degree in Mass Communication. However, he has now decided to go back to academics in pursuit of another degree, this time in English Language, as part of a personal career shift and self-development goal.

According to his post, he wrote the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) despite being out of the academic system for many years. Interestingly, he revealed that he did not engage in intensive preparation for the exam. He stated that his reading was minimal, mentioning that he only managed to go through The Lekki Headmaster, Marriage of Anansewa, and some recommended poems, while not studying most of the major subjects such as CRK, English, or Government in depth.

Despite the limited preparation, he performed better than he did in his first attempt. He scored 285 in the 2026 UTME, which is an improvement over the 261 he scored 16 years ago, a result that surprised many online users and sparked admiration for his effort and courage.

In his words, he expressed strong hope of securing admission into the university so he can start a new academic journey and obtain another degree that aligns with his current interest in English Language.

His story has since attracted mixed reactions online, with many people praising his determination, lifelong learning mindset, and courage to return to school at 37, while others expressed surprise at his performance despite what he described as minimal preparation.
