Paul University Suspends Anglican Priest Over Alleged Sexual Misconduct

Paul University, Awka, has indefinitely suspended an Anglican priest and staff member, Venerable Cornelius Eze, over allegations of sexual misconduct while internal and security agency investigations continue.

Paul University, Awka, has suspended one of its staff members, Venerable Cornelius Eze, following allegations of sexual misconduct involving a student.

According to the university, Eze, who works as a Practical Biology Technologist in the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, has been placed on indefinite suspension while investigations continue. The institution said the matter is being handled through its internal disciplinary process as well as by relevant security agencies.

The university’s Public Relations Officer, Rev. Godisplan Onukwufor, explained that management became aware of the allegations on July 14, 2026, and immediately contacted law enforcement to prevent unrest after the incident sparked tension among students.

A video circulating on social media allegedly showed the staff member leaving his office dressed only in boxer shorts after the reported incident, attracting widespread public attention.

Paul University stressed that the suspension is only a preliminary administrative measure and does not determine guilt. It noted that the outcome will depend on the findings of both the university’s investigation and that of the appropriate authorities.

The institution reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment, stating that it has zero tolerance for sexual harassment, abuse of office, immoral conduct, or any behaviour that threatens the dignity and welfare of students or staff.

Management also revealed that counselling and psychological support would be provided to students and others who may have been affected by the incident. It urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information or making assumptions while investigations remain ongoing.

The university assured parents, students and members of the public that it will continue to uphold its values of integrity, discipline and accountability, promising to release further updates when appropriate.
