ABU Introduces Instalment Payment Plan for Postgraduate Students

ABU Zaria management has approved Instalment Tuition Payments for Master’s and PhD Students.

The Postgraduate College of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria is pleased to announce that the Postgraduate College Board has approved the introduction of a Flexible Tuition Fee Payment Platform for newly admitted students into Academic Postgraduate Programmes (Master’s and PhD degrees) of the University.

This initiative is being introduced as a special concession in recognition of the prevailing economic realities and in response to the need to support students who may find it difficult to make full payment of tuition fees at once. The scheme is intended to improve access to postgraduate education while maintaining the financial discipline required for effective university administration.

Under the approved arrangement, eligible students who voluntarily opt into the scheme may pay their tuition fees in structured instalments within the academic session. The key features of the arrangement include:

50% payment of the approved tuition fees upon admission, which enables the student to register for first semester courses and participate fully in lectures and academic activities.
A minimum of 80% payment before the commencement of the second semester, which is required for second semester course registration.
Full settlement (100%) of tuition fees before the end of the second semester, which qualifies the student to print examination cards and participate in second semester examinations.

Participation in the Flexible Payment Plan is strictly optional. Students who prefer the traditional system may still pay their fees in full at the beginning of the academic session. It should also be noted that the scheme currently applies only to Academic Postgraduate Programmes (Academic Master’s and PhD degrees). Professional postgraduate programmes are not included at this stage.

Students who wish to participate in the scheme will be required to formally accept a Flexible Tuition Fee Payment Agreement through the University portal. This agreement outlines the conditions, timelines, and obligations associated with participation in the scheme.

The University believes that this initiative represents an important step towards supporting postgraduate students, improving enrolment, and sustaining the tradition of academic excellence for which Ahmadu Bello University is known.
