Ahmadu Bello University’s 8,547 fresh students for the 2023/2024 academic session today took the oath of matriculation with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, chairing.


Speaking at the occasion held at Mamman Kontagora Square, Main Campus, the Vice-Chancellor described matriculation ceremony as a time of joy for those who have successfully gained admission and passed through the screening exercise.
The academic event marks the closure of admission exercise for the 2023/2024 academic session.
The Vice-Chancellor, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim, said by “this ceremony, you have been formally accepted into Ahmadu Bello University and you would now be fully guided by all the rules and regulations of the University”.
“In this ceremony you have sworn and affirmed that you will abide by the laws of the University and uphold its traditions”.
“University education is normally an exciting experience, so also a great deal of social responsibility upon you as you pursue your studies”, he stressed.
The Vice-Chancellor urged them to maintain a peaceful, stable and cordial atmosphere for conducive teaching, learning and good character building.
Bala also advised them to shun all social vices such as exam cheat, cultism, drug abuse, indecent dress, and all forms of anti-social behaviours in addition to refraining from associating with unapproved students’ clubs.
Prof. Bala assured the students of their lecturers commitment towards giving them the best in order to attain their future career ambitions.
He said it is the goal of ABU and its affiliated institutions to produce students with great capacity, saying also that it is the wish of the University to produce students with curiosity and creativity to prepare for proper engagement with the fast moving and changing complex world.
The Vice-Chancellor also advised the students to utilize the resources provided to them by their parents and guardians judiciously for upkeep and other legitimate activities while in school.
Similarly, he then enjoined them to be more security conscious and to abide by all the security tips provided for their safety.
Prof. Bala congratulated the newly admitted students into ABU community and then prayed to God to give the students the wisdom and courage to learn and to become good ambassadors of educational system.
The Registrar, Malam Rabiu Samaila, administered the matriculation oath, with a number of Management staff, and other key staff of the University in attendance.
