Senator Announces Selection of Over 30,000 Students for Loan Program

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has announced that over 30,000 Nigerian students have been chosen to receive benefits from the student loan scheme.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has announced that over 30,000 Nigerian students have been chosen to receive benefits from the student loan scheme.

Akpabio shared this information on Tuesday during his visit to the Nigeria Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies in Abuja.

The loan, introduced by President Bola, covers tuition, fees, and living expenses, with repayment starting two years after the beneficiaries complete their mandatory National Youth Service Corps program.

“Currently, over 30,000 Nigerian students have been selected to benefit from this scheme,” Akpabio stated.

He praised the student loan bill, emphasizing that it provides underprivileged Nigerian students with access to higher education.

In related news, Nnamdi Kanu has sought negotiations with the Federal Government regarding his trial. Meanwhile, the IMF and other entities believe that significant investment in education could enhance Nigeria’s economy. Additionally, the stock market opened the week on a negative note.

Akpabio also commented on the rise of banditry in Nigeria, suggesting it might have been prevented if the country had retained the old national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee,” which was abolished in 1978.

He highlighted that the bill to reinstate the old national anthem was one of the most significant passed by the National Assembly.

“Many are unaware that a panel of Nigerians was set up in 1959 to gather input from around the world. When critics call it a colonial anthem, they should understand the history of ‘Nigeria, We Hail Thee.’ Had we retained that anthem, banditry might not exist today, as it promotes seeing your neighbor as a brother, preventing harm,” Akpabio explained.
