The zonal Coordinator, the Academy Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Bauchi State zone, comprising six universities, Prof. Lawan Abubakar, yesterday said the union has never accepted strike as a viable option in resolving industrial disputes, since the institutions stand to lose many things.
He noted that instead, strike comes in when it becomes the last option to draw government’s attention to decay in tertiary institutions. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Saturday Telegraph, at the ASUU Secretariat, in Bauchi, Abubakar said: “I am calling on members, students, parents and University administrators to support us, strike is not in our interest so that we can get of our classes, laboratories and researches.

“We want to be also in our classrooms, laboratories but the strike is our last option when there’s no other option left to draw government attention than strike, we are never strike happy we stand to lose a whenever we embark on strike, but we see it as sacrifice.”
He said with time, government would never be trust worthy as the union was looking inward for another suitable alternative to replace strike even though is yet to locate one. He said: “What our members are saying is that we cannot take the words of people in government any longer. What we will take is action and there is no need for us to sign anything with government any longer.
