Federal Polytechnic Wannune has expelled two students for cult-related violence on campus and dismissed its deputy rector for misconduct and credential fraud, reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on indiscipline.

The Federal Polytechnic, Wannune, located in Benue State, has expelled two students following their involvement in cult-related activities on campus.
Rector of the institution, Dr. Tyover Ashinya, revealed this during a press briefing in Makurdi, stressing that the school maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy toward cultism and all forms of misconduct.
“Cultism is gradually becoming a norm in many tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Just yesterday, we expelled two students over cult-related activities,” he stated.
Dr. Ashinya recounted that the students had just finished an examination when a disturbance erupted outside his office. Upon investigation, he witnessed two students physically assaulting another student. Further inquiries confirmed that the assailants were members of a cult group, leading to their immediate expulsion.
He emphasized that as a newly established institution—founded in 2021—the polytechnic is committed to maintaining discipline and a safe learning environment. The school now operates 24 departments and runs eight Higher National Diploma (HND) programs.
Additionally, Dr. Ashinya addressed the dismissal of Deputy Rector Dr. Doris Iorchi. He explained that she was removed for gross misconduct after failing to provide valid documentation supporting her appointment as a Chief Lecturer.
