The Ekiti State Police Command has recovered the body of one of two EKSU students who reportedly drowned in Ero Dam after a research trip, while the search for the second student continues.

The Ekiti State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of the body of one of the two students from Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, who reportedly drowned in the Ero Dam, Ikun Ekiti, Moba Local Government Area, on Sunday evening.

Unverified reports initially suggested that the two undergraduates were missing after swimming in the dam. Tragically, they were later feared to have drowned.

Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Sunday Abutu, provided an update on the incident, stating, “The corpse of one of the reportedly drowned EKSU students was found today around 6:00 PM, floating on the Ero Dam. The body has been recovered and taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti, for an autopsy. Efforts are ongoing to determine the condition of the second student.”

The victims, identified as Oluwatobiloba Osho and Oladimeji Victor, were both students in the Department of Theatre Arts at EKSU.

According to reports, the two students had accompanied their colleagues and a supervisor to Igogo Ekiti, a nearby community, for research and rehearsals. After the group completed their assignment and returned to campus, the duo reportedly stayed behind to visit the dam for sightseeing.

They were later declared missing, prompting a search effort involving local fishermen and a police rescue team.

The incident has sparked widespread concern among the university community and residents of the area as authorities continue to search for the second student.
