Brilliant Nigerian Lady beats 58,000 people, joins top 2% to win two Prestigious Scholarships

CURSORY: An inspiring Nigerian lady has shared her life’s journey to the point where she emerged as one of the top 2% to win two prestigious scholarships.

Adebola Tolulope Adeoti, an inspiring Nigerian lady has recently shared her success story on LinkedIn, from her struggles to the point where she emerged as a winner of two prestigious scholarships.

The young woman, who founded an NGO, Ladies Connect Initiative that protects women’s rights from gender-based violence through free legal representation and community-focused programs, explained that she was exposed to gender-based discrimination from an early age.

She said:

“Apart from the statistics on the gender-based violence and discrimination against the girl child; attending a girls’ secondary school and growing up in a rural community also exposed me to the harsh reality of the Nigerian girl child”

She revealed that the experience and her reality fuelled her choice of profession- lawyer to defend women rights and to also empower them.⠀

She said:

“After graduating from the university, I founded an NGO Ladies Connect Initiative that protects women’s rights from gender-based violence through free legal representation and community-focused programs which have catered for the needs of thousands of girls and women in rural communities for the past four years”

In a bid to enhance her skills, she applied for the Chevening and the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship to which she became a part of the top 2% out of 58,000 applicants across the world to be selected.⠀

The excited achiever shared

“For the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship: I was nominated by two schools: the University of Sussex which is ranked as the 1st university in the world for development studies to study Gender and Development and Brunel University which is also one of the top public universities in London to study LLM International Human Rights. ⠀

“However, I have decided to select the Chevening Scholarship to pursue my Master’s at the University of Ulster to study LLM in Gender, Conflict and Human Rights the only university in the UK and Ireland that offers the course.

“Both scholarships are highly competitive and I feel so honoured to be selected as a part of the top 2% out of 58,000 applicants across the world.”⠀

Tolulope stated that she is honoured to be recognized for the advocacy work that she does, stating that she will strive to get better and also thanked everyone that has supported and stood by her.

” I appreciate the #foreignCommonWealthAndDevelopmentOffice for recognising the advocacy work that I do.⠀⠀

“I look forward to learning more about the interplay of gender studies, conflict and human rights to cater for the needs of vulnerable women and girls in the rural communities in Nigeria”, she said.⠀

“Special appreciation to my parents, my love, Hawa O., Wuraoluwa Soibi Ayodele, Olaoluwa Abagun, Richard, Adamu and everyone who assisted me to achieve this goal.” She added.⠀
