Cursory: Femi Gbajabiamila has denied promising to ensure that the federal government pays arrears of salaries owed to ASUU members. The House of Reps speaker made the denial following claim by Prof Osodeke that Gbajabiamila had failed to deliver on his promise, however said that the House had resolved to improve the welfare package of university lecturers.


Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will not be happy with the recent statement of the speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.
The speaker who was instrumental in the calling off of their 8-month strike has denied pledging to ensure an offset of the arrears of salaries owed them.
The denial is contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday by the Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Information, Benjamin Kalu, Premium Times reports.
The denial followed alleged claims by the ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke that Gbajabiamila had failed to deliver on a written commitment that the government would offset the lecturers’ salary arrears immediately after calling off their strike.
