A 200-level Biotechnology student at Delta State University (DELSU) has been suspended for two years after sharing an online video showing a dying colleague.
The disciplinary measure was confirmed in a statement issued by the university and signed by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Samuel Asagba.
Details of the Suspension
According to the notice dated October 21, 2025, the student, Ezi Ugoma, was found guilty of recording and uploading a video of a dying fellow student on TikTok.
The university described her action as “assault” and announced that she had been rusticated for four semesters, effective from the 2025/2026 academic session.
Ugoma is expected to return to campus in the 2027/2028 academic session after serving her suspension.
The statement read:
“After due consideration of the committee’s report, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Samuel O. Asagba, has approved the recommendation that you be rusticated for four semesters for the offence of assault, with effect from the 2025/2026 academic session. You are to resume studies from the 2027/2028 academic session.”
Background
This development follows several controversies involving Delta State University in recent times.
In January 2025, the institution made headlines after one of its lecturers, Professor Emeka Chukwuma, was murdered in his hometown of Asaba. Security agencies later confirmed the incident and assured the public that investigations were underway to bring the culprits to justice.
