A student of Delta State Polytechnic and a vigilante member died after allegedly falling into an open well while police officers chased the student in Delta State, prompting an ongoing investigation by the police.


A student of Delta State Polytechnic reportedly lost his life after allegedly being chased by police officers in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State.
According to reports, the student and a local vigilante member fell into an open well during the pursuit and were later recovered dead. The incident was said to have happened after police officers and the vigilante chased the student over an offence that had not yet been identified.
Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu revealed the incident on social media, stating that the officers failed to consider the danger posed by the uncovered water-filled well during the chase.
The Nigeria Police Force Complaint Response Unit confirmed that investigations had begun into the tragic event. Delta State Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi said the officers involved had already been identified.
Police spokesperson Bright Edafe also confirmed the incident and stated that further details would be released as investigations continue.
