Anshonarial won the admiration of many after she managed to walk the stage at her graduation ceremony at Louisiana State University of Alexandria despite being in a heave 9-month labor.
Anshonarial Greenhouse, a determined 9-month pregnant woman, managed to walk the stage at her graduation ceremony at Louisiana State University of Alexandria despite being in labor.
Greenhouse, a 31-year-old from Marksville, crossed the stage with assistance from the head baseball coach, who was directing graduates, to receive her bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting.
She began having contractions at 25 weeks, but despite this challenge, she persevered.
“College takes four years and everyone faces a lot of adversity throughout those years,” Greenhouse said. “If I can complete my (school) work from the hospital for two months, I know I can at least get through this. It shows that anything can be done.”
Greenhouse spent her final semester completing assignments, speeches, and projects virtually from the hospital. “Professors were very accommodating. I was embarrassed to do my video presentations in a hospital gown, but they told me not to worry about it,” she shared.
When it was time for graduation, she informed a sorority sister who worked at the school that she would be walking while in labor. Her friend arranged accommodations for the day, including having an ambulance and a wheelchair ready if needed.
Greenhouse was offered a wheelchair to reach the stage but declined. “Walking signifies that I really did it,” she said. After receiving her diploma, she did use a wheelchair briefly.
Greenhouse and her husband had been trying for another child for four years, making this pregnancy special. Her husband was initially hesitant about her walking during the ceremony due to her complications, but she insisted it was something she really wanted to do.
After receiving her diploma, Greenhouse took a seven-minute car ride to the hospital, where she gave birth to a healthy baby boy. She expressed happiness at fulfilling her dream.
