The Tinubu-led government has launched a comprehensive reform of the NYSC, including a review of its laws, plans for Teachers’ and Medical Corps, a proposed two-year extension, increased entrepreneurship training, and a new ₦77,000 monthly allowance for corps members.


allscho The Federal Government, led by President Tinubu, has begun a major overhaul of the NYSC scheme to address safety concerns, poor infrastructure, and its relevance to today’s socio-economic landscape.
Youth Minister Ayodele Olawande inaugurated a committee to review NYSC laws and recommend reforms. The aim is to align the scheme with national development goals and youth empowerment.
Plans were also unveiled for a Teachers’ Corps and Medical Corps to deploy NCE graduates and healthcare workers to rural areas. Meanwhile, a proposal to extend NYSC to two years is under consideration, along with expanding entrepreneurial training.
NYSC Director-General Brig. Gen. Y.D. Ahmed affirmed the scheme’s readiness for change and called for better tracking of Nigerians studying abroad.
