Federal Ministry Halts FUTO Vice Chancellor’s Appointment of 24 Aides

The Federal Ministry reportedly halted the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) Vice Chancellor’s appointment of 24 aides and directed him to appear in Abuja over the matter.

The Federal Ministry of Education has reportedly stopped the appointment of 24 aides recently made by the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri, Prof. Nnenna Oti. The ministry also summoned the vice chancellor to Abuja to explain the appointments and address concerns surrounding the decision.

According to reports, the appointments attracted attention due to the large number of aides selected within the university administration. The ministry is said to be reviewing whether the appointments complied with existing regulations governing federal tertiary institutions.

Sources indicated that the Federal Ministry of Education directed that the appointments should not take effect until a proper review is completed. The ministry is expected to assess the necessity of the positions, the appointment process, and their potential financial implications for the institution.

The vice chancellor has been invited to Abuja to provide clarification and present relevant documents concerning the appointments. The meeting is expected to help determine whether the appointments followed due process and aligned with government policies.

The development has generated discussions among stakeholders in the education sector, with some questioning the need for such a large number of aides, while others argue that university administrators should have the flexibility to appoint personnel needed for effective management.

The ministry has not yet announced its final decision on the matter, but the outcome of its review could influence future administrative appointments in federal universities across the country.
