FUBK Promotes Five Associate Professors, Dismisses Ex-ICT Director, Demotes Staff For Misconduct

The Governing Council of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK) has approved the promotion of five academic staff to the rank of Associate Professor (Reader).

The decision was taken at the Council’s 32nd Meeting held on Tuesday June 23, following recommendations of External Assessors as well as the Senior Staff Appointments and Promotions Committee (SSAPC).

This is contained in a statement issued to newsmen on Thursday in Birnin Kebbi by Jamilu Magaji, Head, Information and Public Relations of the University.

According to him, the promoted academics were drawn from the Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences and the Faculty of Clinical Sciences. They include Dr. Aliyu Hamza Balarabe (Ophthalmology), Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Birnin Kebbi.

He said other beneficiaries are Dr. Ibrahim Abdulkadir (Haematology), Dr. Ashiru Ladan Argungu (Obstetrics and Gynaecology), Dr. Monsidu Kehinde Fasasi (Ophthalmology) and Dr. Garba Umar Kangiwa (Ophthalmology).

In another development, Council approved the dismissal of former Acting Director of ICT, Isah Yusuf Tsafe, after finding him culpable of gross misconduct, negligence and failure to account for university assets under his custody.

“Council based its decision on the recommendations of the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee (SSDC),” Mr Magaji said.

The SSDC found that several ICT assets went missing while under his supervision.

Council directed management to recover or surcharge the value of all outstanding university property linked to the case.

In a separate disciplinary case, Council also approved the deranking of Mr Abdullahi Mohammed Adamu of the ICT Department by one grade level and barred him from promotion for five years.

“The SSDC found that Adamu engaged in financial transactions with parents of admission seekers and involved himself in admission-related matters despite not being a member of the university’s Admissions Unit.

Council reaffirmed its commitment to merit, accountability and discipline, stressing that misconduct would attract appropriate sanctions regardless of position,” the statement said.

Thank you.
