A user on X revealed that his mother earned as little as ₦25,000 monthly for five years while teaching at a school owned by David Oyedepo, despite students paying hundreds of thousands in tuition, sparking renewed debate about teacher pay in private institutions.

A user on X (formerly known as Twitter) has sparked widespread discussion after disclosing the salary his mother received while working at a school affiliated with renowned clergyman David Oyedepo.
This came in response to a report by The Guardian, which highlighted that many private school teachers in Nigeria earn as little as ₦15,000 monthly—far below the national minimum wage of ₦77,000.
The user, identified as Faith Emmanuel (@themmanuelfaith), revealed that his mother worked at the institution for a decade. For the first five years, she reportedly earned just ₦25,000 monthly. Even at the peak of her career there, her salary only rose to ₦60,000.
Meanwhile, the school’s tuition fees ran into hundreds of thousands of naira per term.
“My mother worked at David Oyedepo’s school for ten years and her highest salary was 60,000 naira. She earned about 25,000 for five years, and the students pay hundreds of thousands every term,” Emmanuel tweeted.
His post has reignited debates around fair compensation for teachers in private educational institutions across Nigeria, especially those tied to high-profile figures and religious organizations.
