A university student’s life was derailed after he unknowingly ate weed-laced beans, collapsed the next day, spent four months in a coma, missed his exams, and was forced to extend his studies by an extra year.

A Nigerian man has shared a frightening experience from his university days that left him in a coma for four months after unknowingly eating food prepared with cannabis.
The account was shared by an X (formerly Twitter) user identified as @he-is-drey, who said the incident happened while he was in his second year at the university. According to him, he returned from lectures one day to find his neighbours cooking beans. He asked to join them once the food was ready and was warned that the meal contained weed, a substance he had never consumed before. Driven by hunger, he still went ahead and ate the food.
He explained that nothing unusual happened immediately, but later that night he began to feel severe discomfort and was unable to sleep. Alone in his room with no one to contact, he forced himself to sleep despite the pain.
The following morning, while heading to lectures, he suddenly collapsed and later regained consciousness in a hospital surrounded by unfamiliar faces. His mother was contacted, but before she arrived, his condition worsened and he was given medication to manage intense stomach pain. That, he said, was the last thing he remembered.
The man revealed that he remained unconscious for four months, during which time he never got to see his mother. Reflecting on the experience, he said he often wonders what she must have gone through while he was in that state.
As a result of the incident, he missed his semester examinations and had to spend an extra year completing his university education.
The story has since sparked widespread reactions online, with many users expressing shock, sympathy, and warnings about the dangers of consuming unfamiliar substances.
