IAUE Senate Approves Postponement of Examination Date For Postgraduate Students

IAUE Senate has Approved Postponement of Examination Date For Postgraduate Students

The Senate of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) Rumuolumeni Port-Harcourt Rivers State Nigeria on Wednesday May 14, 2025 during an emergency meeting of the highest academic university body approved the postponement of the examination date for the Postgraduate Students.

The examination had been scheduled for Monday May 19, 2025 but the Associate Dean of the Postgraduate School, Professor Chibuzor Chile Nwobueze in his submission prayed the House to shift the date to the Month of June, 2025 due to the 43rd Convocation Ceremony of the University billed for Friday May 30th and Saturday May 31st, 2025.

Professor Chibuzor Chile Nwobueze also proposed that the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies Programme be changed to Okey Onuchuku Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies.

Dean, Faculty of Humanities Professor Kingdom Eke Orji, Director Academic Planning Professor Joseph Kinanee and Head, Department of History and Diplomatic Studies, Dr Blessing Thomas Michael all spoke in support of the motion raised by the Associate Dean Postgraduate school.

They added that the peaceful disposition of the Vice Chancellor and his constant effort at sustaining the peace in the University and among staff , the establishment of the Institute which he is funding with proceeds from the sale of the book in his honour by contributors across Universities in the Country and donations towards the building from his personal contacts are enough reasons to support the name change. Senate unanimously supported the two motions.

In another development, the Chairman of Senate, Professor Okechuku Onuchuku has approved the extension of the tenure of the Acting Head of the Department of Fine and Applied Arts, Dr Sotonye Allen Orubu.

While others are requesting on a daily basis for monetary support for their expenditures without giving account of their Departmental or Faculty dues, Dr Orubu used what he generated from the Department to build offices for staff of the Department the Chairman hinted.
He remarked that his decision stems from his management of human resource and judicious use of funds internally generated from the Department.and added that he will remain the Head of the Department.

He informed that Management will assist the newly established Departments and Faculties until they can stand on their own
The Chairman of Senate equally lauded the Dean of the Faculty of Administration and Management Sciences Professor Kingsley Gbeke Kalagbor for frugal use of the Faculty dues and enjoined others to emulate the good leadership examples set.

The Vice Chancellor banned the collection of fees for signing of certification pages for students and warned that those caught asking students to pay the outrageous sum of twenty five thousand naira will be severely dealt with.

Newly promoted Professors were introduced and welcomed to Senate while results from the Faculties of Administration and Management Sciences, Education, Humanities, Natural and Applied Sciences, Social Sciences, Vocational and Technical Education, Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) and Postgraduate School were approved by Senate.
