Many Injured as School Buildings Collapse on Students in Yobe


A school building collapse at GGSTC Potiskum, Yobe State, left several students injured and one dead, prompting government intervention and an investigation into the cause.

Several students sustained injuries after multiple classrooms collapsed at Government Girls Science and Technical College (GGSTC) on Gombe Road in Potiskum, Yobe State.

The incident occurred during school hours on Thursday, trapping many students under the debris. Emergency responders quickly evacuated the injured students, who were rushed to the hospital for treatment. Sadly, one student has been confirmed dead.

Speaking on the tragedy, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education, Bukar Aji, confirmed that the affected students, mainly SSII students, are receiving medical care at the Specialist Hospital in Potiskum.

He further stated that the State Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has been tasked with investigating the cause of the collapse and submitting a report.

Aji expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and reassured the public that the government remains committed to maintaining school infrastructure to prevent such incidents in the future.
