The Non-Academic Staff Union and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) have instructed their members to commence a nationwide strike lasting for seven days. This decision follows a previous announcement hinting at an impending warning strike, which was made six days prior.
According to a report by Legit.ng, the unions disseminated a memo addressed to their respective branches, as reported by Premium Times on Sunday afternoon, March 17.
The memo, issued by the joint action committee (JAC) comprising both SSANU and NASU and signed by SSANU’s national president, Mohammed Ibrahim, and NASU’s general secretary, Peters Adeyemi, called for strict compliance with the directive.
The JAC criticized the administration led by Bola Tinubu for permitting the situation to deteriorate, questioning the rationale behind releasing withheld salaries for members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) while neglecting their own members.
In a section of the memo, it stated: “Please note that the 7-day warning strike should be comprehensive and total as no concession should be given in any guise.
“Your strict compliance and adherence to this directive is mandatory for all NASU and SSANU branches in the universities and Inter-University Centres.”
