Niger State Closes IBB University Over Security Concerns

The Niger State Government has indefinitely closed Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, due to recent security breaches and loss of lives, pledging swift action to restore order and ensure safety.

The Niger State Government has ordered the immediate closure of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, following recent security breaches and the loss of lives within the university community.

The announcement was made through a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Usman, on behalf of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago. The university will remain closed until further notice.

“This decision is a direct response to the recent security challenges and tragic loss of lives at the university. The safety of our citizens, especially students, remains our utmost priority,” the statement read.

The government expressed deep sorrow over the events and affirmed that efforts are underway to address the situation urgently.

Members of the university community have been urged to stay calm, vigilant, and cooperate fully with security agencies during this period.

“The government is committed to restoring law and order and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable,” the statement concluded.
