Based on the recent accreditation of courses at the Benson Idahosa University (BIU), by the National Universities Commission (NUC), the University now runs 34 academic programmes, all fully accredited.


In addition, the University is now the first University in Nigeria to successfully conduct an e-learning verification and assessment process for all academic programmes.
Professor Sam Guobadia, the Vice Chancellor, Benson Idahosa University, disclosed this at a press briefing to flag off the 16th convocation ceremony of the University.
The VC, while announcing that the University will be graduating 523 students: 37 First class, 382 Second class honours, 16 Third class honours, and 88 postgraduates with seven doctorates, however, pointed out that the 2019/2020 academic session was unique because of the pandemic caused by the Covid-19.
According to him, the University in line with one of its core values – INNOVATION delivered on its promise to ensure that the students’ academic pursuit and programmes were not stagnated and we were able to conclude our academic calendar.
“Our success extends to the postgraduate level where we also offer programmes at the diploma, Masters and PhD levels.
“We will be commencing the following academic programmes: Medicine, Anatomy and Physiology in addition to Nursing, Medical Laboratory Sciences which are currently running.
“On collaborations and Linkages, the University is also in cooperation with the following institutions: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), The Oral Roberts University, Oklahoma, USA, The University of Muenster, Germany, The Business and Applied Sciences of North America, University of Pennsylvania, amongst others.
“These collaborations will go in no small way to ensure that our academic content to our students are delivered on globally certified standards,” he said.
Guobadia also announced that the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege will today Friday, July 16th, 2021. deliver a convocation lecture titled “Nigeria’s democratic experience since 1999: The imperative of reforming the electoral process”
He said he was ecstatic to also announce that the institution was privileged to host two accomplished Nigerians on Saturday, July 17, 2021: the Honourable Minister of State, Power; Goddy Jedy Agba OFR, an excellent bureaucrat and the Vice Chairman, FAMFA OIL LTD, Apostle Folorunso Alakija, a distinguished industrialist.
“We are most delighted to respectively bestow the honorary doctorate degrees in Public and Business Administration, alongside other graduating students,” he added.
