NUC Launches Curriculum Development for 12 Undergraduate Programs to Boost Higher Education

The National Universities Commission (NUC) launched a curriculum development initiative for 12 undergraduate programs in Abuja.

On Monday, March 17, 2025, the National Universities Commission (NUC) formally commenced the development of curricula for eleven (11) outstanding and one (1) omitted undergraduate programmes within the Nigerian University System (NUS).

Esteemed professors from various universities across Nigeria were invited to contribute their expertise to this significant initiative.

While inaugurating the team at the NUC Secretariat in Abuja, signalling the commencement of the exercise, the Executive Secretary, Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, FCVSN, underscored the importance of the exercise in enhancing both the quality and relevance of higher education in Nigeria.

He called on participants to collaborate effectively in crafting comprehensive and innovative curricula that aligns with the demands of the modern job market and address societal expectations.

This initiative is part of a larger effort by the NUC to ensure that Nigerian universities remained competitive and responsive to the evolving landscape of education and workforce needs.

The process of the curriculum development is aimed at filling existing gaps in programmes, encourage interdisciplinary studies, and incorporate emerging fields of knowledge to better prepare students for future challenges.

With the engagement of academic experts, the NUC aspires to establish a robust framework that will shape the future of undergraduate education in Nigeria, ultimately benefiting students, educators, and the nation as a whole.

Some of the programmes being reviewed include two in the Administration and Management Discipline, Sports Management as well as Economic & Management Studies; Community Health Science and Doctor of Medical Lab Science in the Allied Health Sciences Discipline, among others.
