A Nigerian couple’s extravagant birthday surprise for their daughter at school, featuring a cake, money bouquet, and trumpeter, went viral, sparking mixed reactions online, with some praising the gesture and others criticizing it as excessive.

Nigerian parents sparked mixed reactions online after organizing an extravagant surprise birthday celebration for their daughter at school.
In a viral video, the young girl was visibly emotional as her parents arrived unexpectedly with a cake, a money bouquet, a heartfelt note, and even a trumpeter to celebrate her special day.
Her mother, a baker, shared the surprise on TikTok (@helescakes), explaining how they planned the gesture after their daughter requested a cake to share with classmates since school was closed on her actual birthday.
She wrote:
“My daughter was going to school and asked for our Fresh2go cake with her favorite flavors to share with her classmates. Since she missed celebrating on her actual birthday, her dad, two siblings, and I decided to deliver the cake in style. 😍 She forgot her mum is the Queen of surprises! 🥹😄 My family and I truly appreciate everyone who celebrated her.”
The video quickly went viral, drawing both praise and criticism. While some applauded the parents for making their daughter feel special, others argued that such grand gestures could create unrealistic expectations and put pressure on other students whose parents might not afford similar celebrations.
Reactions to the Lavish Birthday Surprise
@maxvayshia: “Terrible parenting. A money bouquet for a secondary school girl? No wonder many young women expect expensive gifts from men. Parenting in Nigeria has a serious problem.”
@JimRezzz: “She will never forget this in her life. No boy can impress her with surprises now because her dad has already shown her what true love looks like.”
@MUMSYTIARASTORE: “This is lovely. But if she doesn’t secure that money, it might disappear in a public school setting. 😂😂😂”
@DeYork02: “What’s so special about this? Other kids will go home feeling unloved because their parents can’t afford this kind of show. Nigeria needs to set better priorities.”
