Police Debunk Kidnapping Claim at St. Peter’s Academy in Nasarawa

Police in Nasarawa clarified that no students were kidnapped at St. Peter’s Academy, explaining that a false alarm triggered by pupils mistaking hunters for gunmen caused unnecessary panic.

The Nasarawa State Police Command has dismissed widespread reports alleging that gunmen invaded St. Peter’s Academy Secondary School in Rukubi, Doma Local Government Area, and abducted two pupils.

The rumour, which spread rapidly across social media, caused panic among residents and students before authorities clarified the situation.

False Alarm Triggers Fear in Community

According to the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, officers received an unverified report around 10:00 a.m. on Friday claiming that two students were kidnapped during sporting activities on the school premises.

He said police personnel, supported by military operatives, immediately raced to the scene. Their investigation revealed that no abduction took place.

The commissioner explained that the scare was caused when students saw local hunters carrying Dane guns in the area. Mistaking them for kidnappers, some pupils fled in panic, which led to the false alarm.

Security operatives combed the surrounding area and confirmed that no threat existed. The school proprietor also verified that no student was missing and that the situation was a misunderstanding.

Police Urge Public to Verify Information

CP Mohammed cautioned the public against spreading unverified information, stressing that such rumours can disrupt community peace and create unnecessary fear.

He assured parents and residents that the area is under close surveillance and that the safety of students remains a top priority.

Security agencies continue to maintain patrols in and around Rukubi as a precautionary measure, while residents have expressed relief following the clarification.

Authorities have urged community members to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the police to avoid future panic.
