A Sudan Crisis: Governor Lawal Grants Automatic Employment to 16 Zamfara Nursing Graduates

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has granted automatic employment to 16 Nursing graduates evacuated from Sudan, emphasizing their role in strengthening the state’s healthcare sector and ongoing development efforts.

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has offered automatic employment to 16 Nursing graduates from Sudan International University, urging them to join the government’s efforts to rebuild the state.

During a ceremony at the Government House in Gusau, the Governor presented their certificates and emphasized the importance of their contributions to the state’s development, particularly in the healthcare sector.

According to a statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the graduates were among 66 students sponsored by the Zamfara State Government who were evacuated from Sudan in 2023 due to the ongoing conflict. Of these, 16 final-year Nursing students were unable to complete their exams before the war erupted.

In September 2023, on Governor Lawal’s directive, the Zamfara Commissioner for Education coordinated with the Sudan International University to conduct the final exams for the students in Nigeria. The university has since sent their certificates, which were formally presented by the Governor.

Speaking at the event, Governor Lawal reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving education and healthcare in Zamfara, stating, “We have declared a state of emergency in education and are making significant strides to rebuild the sector. Hospitals are being constructed and rehabilitated across the state, but these facilities need a skilled workforce to operate effectively.”

The Governor announced that all 16 Nursing graduates would receive automatic employment in the Zamfara State Civil Service, with the Head of Service tasked with confirming their appointments. He congratulated the graduates, highlighting the importance of their profession in the state’s ongoing development.
