Two Parents of Abducted St. Mary’s Catholic School Students Die of Heart Attack

Two parents of abducted St. Mary’s Catholic School students have died from heart attacks triggered by the incident, while authorities separately confirmed the release of 24 kidnapped schoolgirls in Kebbi State.

Two parents affected by the abduction of students from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri village, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State, have reportedly died from heart attacks brought on by the traumatic incident.

The development was confirmed in Minna by the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, through his media aide, Daniel Atori. Bishop Yohanna, who also chairs the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Niger State and oversees the school, revealed that one of the deceased parents was a man identified as Anthony Musa.

According to him, Musa suffered a fatal heart attack shortly after the abduction of the schoolchildren. He added that efforts are still ongoing to reach the family of the second victim, a woman whose identity has not yet been verified.

“The man, Anthony Musa, died of heart attack, but for the female parent, we don’t have the details yet because we couldn’t get her family,” he said.

Update on Kebbi Schoolgirls’ Release

In a related development, authorities have confirmed the release of the 24 schoolgirls abducted in Kebbi State. The students have been reunited with their families, though details surrounding their freedom remain unclear, and no suspects have been apprehended.

Community leaders in Kebbi expressed relief at the girls’ safe return but urged the government and security agencies to strengthen efforts toward ending the persistent wave of school kidnappings across the region.
