UBEC has increased its quality assurance funding from 2% to 5% to strengthen education monitoring, data-driven reforms, and collaboration among stakeholders as part of its 2025–2028 strategic plan to improve teaching and learning outcomes across Nigeria.

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has officially increased the portion of its matching grant allocated to quality assurance activities from 2% to 5%, a move aimed at enhancing education monitoring and improving learning outcomes across Nigeria.
Speaking during the opening session of a three-day training and strategy meeting in Abuja, UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr. Aisha Garba, stated that the increase reflects UBEC’s renewed focus on robust monitoring, evaluation, and data-driven decision-making. The event gathered Zonal Directors, State Quality Assurance Officers, and Directors from all 36 states and the FCT.
Dr. Garba explained that the increased funding, announced during UBEC’s 26th Quarterly Meeting with SUBEB chairpersons in Makurdi, Benue State, represents not only financial support but also a critical investment in educational reform.
“Quality assurance is at the heart of our 2025–2028 strategic plan,” she said, urging stakeholders to embrace updated monitoring tools and align with evolving education standards. She also emphasized the role of data in shaping instructional improvement and fostering accountability.
Dr. Rasaq Olajuwon Akinyemi, UBEC’s Deputy Executive Secretary (Technical), highlighted the significance of the refresher training in equipping officers with the skills and tools to assess and enhance the quality of teaching and learning effectively.
Ada V. Ogwuche, Director of Quality Assurance at UBEC, echoed the need for continuous internal evaluation practices and praised the leadership of Dr. Garba. She encouraged participants to actively engage in the training and to view quality assurance as a lasting institutional culture.
Owolabi Dele, Director of Quality Assurance at Ekiti State SUBEB and Dean of SUBEB/UBEB Directors, emphasized collaboration, describing the initiative as a foundation for strengthening Nigeria’s education system to better serve future generations.
“We are here not just to learn but to collaborate in shaping a more effective and resilient educational framework for our country,” he said.
