The University of Lagos, Akoka, welcomed Pelumi Nubi, the London-Lagos solo driver, on Sunday as she arrived on campus after her remarkable journey. Nubi, a 28-year-old travel content creator, embarked on her solo trip from London on January 30, 2024, and reached the Nigeria-Benin Republic border on Sunday morning.
Pelumi Nubi’s father, Timothy Nubi, is a Professor in the Department of Estate Management at UNILAG and the Founder/National Coordinator of the Ideal Habitat Initiative.
Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, the Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG, commended Nubi’s resilience and described her journey as a testament to the indomitable spirit of Nigerians. Speaking at a reception in UNILAG, Prof. Ogunsola praised Nubi’s courage and determination, highlighting her journey through 17 countries as a symbol of the Nigerian spirit.
Ogunsola emphasized that Nubi’s achievement exemplifies the courage and determination of Nigerians, encouraging others to pursue their dreams without fear. She cited historical figures like Queen Amina of Zaria and Captain Chinyere Kalu as examples of Nigerian resilience and determination.
In her remarks, Prof. Ogunsola expressed pride in Nubi’s accomplishment and reiterated the message that nothing is impossible when one has the determination to succeed. She concluded by congratulating Pelumi Nubi on her journey and inspiring others to follow their dreams with courage and determination.

“I welcome everyone and Pelumi the woman with the indomitable spirit. For Pelumi to live London and spend hours on the road, she went through 17 countries. She embodies the Nigerian spirit. She is the second person to do it.
“Nigerians are courageous. She was not afraid of racism and things that might be on the way. I want all of us here to know that there is nothing you cannot do. All that is stopping you is in your mind.
“Queen Amina of Zaria took to war and conquered, Captain Chinyere Kalu was the first female pilot, among others. Pelumi has shown us that when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. Pelumi, we are proud of you!”
