Yola Law Student Dies by Suicide After Being Barred From Final Examination

A Yola Campus law student, Ayomiposi Ojajuni, tragically died by suicide after allegedly becoming distressed when he was barred from taking his final bar examination due to unanswered queries from the school authorities.

A tragic incident has shaken the Nigeria Law School community at the Yola Campus, following the reported suicide of Ayomiposi Ojajuni, a student who had been preparing to sit for his final bar examinations. The young man, described by colleagues as quiet, hardworking, and determined, allegedly took his own life after learning that he would not be allowed to participate in the crucial exams that were scheduled to begin early Saturday morning.

According to emerging details, Ayomiposi ingested a poisonous substance on Friday evening, shortly after confirming that the school authorities had officially barred him from entering the examination hall. The news of his restriction, sources say, came as a severe emotional blow, as the exam represented the culmination of several years of rigorous academic work and professional training.

Those familiar with the situation recall seeing him visibly distressed on Saturday morning. Several students noted that he appeared overwhelmed and withdrawn, repeatedly expressing fear about the consequences of missing the examination. Moments later, he reportedly consumed the toxic substance that led to his collapse. He was immediately rushed to the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital in Yola, where medical personnel attempted to save his life. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead the following day.

Further investigation revealed that the decision to prevent him from writing the bar exam stemmed from multiple unanswered queries issued by the school authorities over previous weeks. While the nature of these queries has not been clearly disclosed, insiders suggest that they may have related to procedural or administrative concerns. His failure to respond, according to officials, ultimately resulted in disciplinary action, which included exclusion from the examination process.

Efforts to obtain an official comment from the Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Sulaiman Nguroje, were unsuccessful, as calls and messages sent to him on Sunday went unanswered. However, another police official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly, confirmed that the case had been recorded as a suicide.

The incident has sparked widespread emotional reactions within the Yola Campus and beyond. Many students expressed shock, sorrow, and frustration, pointing out the immense pressure associated with the bar examination and the need for stronger emotional support systems within legal education institutions. Others questioned whether the outcome could have been avoided with timely intervention or clearer communication from the authorities.

As the story continues to unfold, calls are growing for a thorough review of the circumstances that led to Ayomiposi’s death, with many urging the Law School to reassess its disciplinary and welfare procedures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
