105-year-old Lady Receives Overdue Master’s Degree from Stanford University

Virginia Hislop, a remarkable 105-year-old woman, has finally received her long-overdue master’s degree from Stanford University.

Virginia Hislop, a remarkable 105-year-old woman, has finally received her long-overdue master’s degree from Stanford University.

Despite her numerous achievements, including raising two children, four grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren, she had always felt something was missing – a master’s degree.

Hislop had taken the necessary courses at Stanford but had not completed her thesis before the United States entered World War II in 1941.

She quickly married her college sweetheart before his Army deployment and focused on her family, never finishing her thesis.Fast-forward 83 years, and Hislop is now being honored for her dedication to education.

The Stanford Graduate School of Education has waived the thesis requirement, and Hislop has satisfied the requirements for a Master of Arts in the Graduate School of Education.

At the education department’s commencement ceremony on Sunday, Hislop received a standing ovation from fellow graduates and her family, many of whom live in the Bay Area.

Her granddaughter, Elizabeth Jensen, praised her grandmother’s unwavering support and enthusiasm, saying, “This is her lifetime achievement award.

“Hislop was beaming with satisfaction as she received her diploma and academic hood. She emphasized that it’s never too late to pursue a college degree and encouraged others to follow her example.

When asked what she would do with the diploma, Hislop smiled and said, “I’ll add it to the others I have in the basement.”

Her remarkable story serves as a testament to her perseverance and dedication to education, inspiring others to pursue their own academic goals, no matter how late in life.
