48 lecturers, security agents arrested over JUBEP exam fraud

The Independent Corruption and Other Related Crimes Commission and the Ministry of National Services arrested 48 individuals suspected of illegal acts in the conduct of the Joint University Preliminary Examination Board.

JUPEB is an advanced educational examination that allows candidates to enter the 200 level of any Nigerian and foreign university through direct admission.

It is coordinated by the University of Lagos and has as many as 10 accredited universities.

ICPC stated that a joint operation called “Combined Operation” carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Education resulted in the arrest of lecturers, security guards, workers and students of participating universities.

After extensive monitoring of the cram school known for sabotaging the JUPEB exam, ICPC and DSS operators carried out “combined operations” simultaneously in seven states.

The assassination led to the arrest of the principal of the cram school. ICPC spokesperson Azuka Ogugua disclosed in a statement on Wednesday entitled “ICPC and DSS arrested 48 lecturers, security personnel, and ICT experts due to the leak of the JUPEB exam.”

According to the committee, the operation was the result of several weeks of surveillance and undercover investigations, which resulted in the arrest of multiple suspects, including the candidate’s parents.

The suspects were arrested from Wellspring University, Benin, Edo State; Christopher University, Mowe, Ogun State and Crown-Hill University, Ilorin, Kwara State.Again the raid of tutorial centres by operatives in McPherson and Precious Cornerstone universities in Ibadan and Ilara-Epe, in Oyo State respectively, led to more arrests of suspects.
