75% of ABU 2023 Graduates Secured Employment After Graduation – a Tracer Survey

Seventy five percent of the 2023 graduates of Ahmadu Bello University approximately secured employment after graduation, according to the institution’s tracer survey.

This was contained in a speech at the 45th Convocation Ceremony of Ahmadu Bello University by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed.

The event took place at Mamman Kontagora Square, Main Campus, Samaru, Zaria, on Saturday, 31st January, 2026.

The graduate tracer survey was conducted recently by the university Advancement Office of the Directorate of Advancement and International Education (DAIE).

Prof Ahmed explained that the graduates secured the jobs that were directly related to their fields of study, reflecting strong degree relevance and labour-market alignment.

“Only about 25 percent reported being unemployed and actively seeking job”, he further explained.

The survey, according to him, also revealed that nearly 80 percent of respondents expressed satisfaction with the quality of teaching, 75 percent with curriculum relevance, and 68 percent with soft-skills development.

Additionally, he said only 54 percent expressed satisfaction with career guidance, a finding that is actively assisting the ongoing reforms in student support services.

The Vice-Chancellor stressed that the student welfare, development, and holistic growth remained a central priority of the university.

He also said the institution sustained its commitment to improving student living and learning conditions through the renovation of hostels and enhancement of social and municipal services across the campus.

These interventions, according to him, were aimed at creating a more conducive environment that supports academic excellence and personal wellbeing.

Prof Ahmed, who was speaking in relation to student activities and welfare, also said the award of scholarships and financial assistance continued to receive focused attention.

He explained that at least 86 indigent students and students with special needs benefited from targeted support, a development that reaffirmed the university’s commitment to inclusiveness and equal opportunity.

Ahmed further said the ‘Lunch with the Vice-Chancellor’ programme was introduced last year to strengthen engagement and mentorship.

He stated that the programme fosters leadership development, empathy, responsibility, and a stronge sense of belonging, while reinforcing a culture of mentorship and shared values across the student body.

The Vice-Chancellor further stressed that students of the university continued to distinguish themselves in national and international competitions.

He listed such competitions as the ECOWAS Moot in Abuja, and the Huawei International Competition in Artificial Intelligence category in Shenzhen, China where the institution’s students won.

Prof Ahmed also said the 2025 Students’ Cultural Carnival organised by students themselves received national recognition and would remain one of the most celebrated expression of creativity, unity, and cultural diversity on the campus.

“These achievements underscore the quality of training and global competitiveness of our graduates”, he said.

He further said the achievements reaffirmed ABU’s commitment to nurturing well rounded graduates equipped to contribute meaningfully to national and global development.
