Bria Peacock, an exceptional young woman, has recently graduated from the Medical College of Georgia and received the prestigious National Excellence Award from the United States Government.

During her hooding ceremony as a Medical Doctor at the Medical College of Georgia, she was honored with the 2021 Excellence in Public Health Award by the United States Public Health Service, making her only the third student in the school’s history to achieve this esteemed recognition.

Bria’s dedication to public service both domestically and internationally earned her this distinguished award.

Her remarkable initiatives include establishing a peer-to-peer education group for high school girls to address teen pregnancy prevention, not only in her local community but also in Peru and Kenya.

As highlighted by Dr. Kathryn Martin, associate dean at the Medical College of Georgia, Bria’s organization, Sisters Informing Healthy Living and Empowering, focused on educating adolescents about sexual health, promoting abstinence, and fostering self-esteem to combat teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.

Additionally, Bria played a pivotal role in coordinating a free women’s clinic and conducted impactful research in women’s health, particularly in cervical cancer and cardiovascular disease, which garnered national recognition. Her exceptional contributions have earned her a residency position at the University of California, San Francisco.

Reflecting on her achievements, Bria expressed gratitude for the opportunity to positively impact numerous lives and hopes that her initiatives will continue to expand and benefit communities worldwide.

“I’m grateful that it has impacted so many people. That is the goal, I just didn’t think it would happen this early, I hope it just continues to grow,” Bria said.
