FG Intervenes as Nigerian Students in UK Face Deportation

The Nigerian Federal Government has addressed the deportation orders issued against Nigerian students at Teesside University in the UK.

The Nigerian Federal Government has stepped in to address deportation orders issued against Nigerian students at Teesside University in the UK.

A team led by Nigerian Embassy representative Ambassador Christian Okeke, along with leaders from the Nigerian Students Union in the UK, is set to meet with the university’s management to find a solution.

This follows a virtual meeting chaired by Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, with Okeke, Nigerian Students Union UK President Yemi Soile, and several affected students in attendance.

The meeting took place on Sunday.

NiDCOM spokesperson Abdur-Rahman Balogun confirmed the intervention plans in a Wednesday statement.

During the meeting, students shared their experiences and hoped for a positive outcome. Dabiri-Erewa urged them to remain calm and avoid taking matters into their own hands.

She also appealed to Teesside University to treat the students fairly.

The issue came to light after Nigerian students at Teesside University protested on May 22, 2024, in response to university directives to leave the UK due to unpaid school fees by some students.
