Twenty Nigerian students have been awarded scholarships to study at ESMT Berlin, enhancing educational and diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Germany, and supporting Nigeria’s development goals.
In a major boost to educational and diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Germany, twenty Nigerian students have been awarded scholarships to attend the European School of Management and Technology (ESMT) in Berlin.
The scholarships were announced during a special dinner hosted by German entrepreneur Lars Windhorst in honor of Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar.
The announcement took place at an exclusive event at the China Club in Berlin, which was attended by prominent figures from both the private and public sectors, including Jörg Rocholl, President of ESMT Berlin, and Lars Windhorst, co-founder of Sapinda Group and owner of La Perla.
Ambassador Tuggar expressed deep appreciation for the scholarships, emphasizing the valuable opportunity they present for the Nigerian students. He commended ESMT Berlin for its status as one of Germany’s top business schools and highlighted the educational benefits that the students will gain.
In his remarks, Ambassador Tuggar also took the opportunity to highlight Nigeria’s evolving economic landscape and invited the German business community to explore investment opportunities in Nigeria, citing the country’s potential.
He praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for its economic reforms, including the removal of subsidies on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and the unification of the exchange rate, which have improved Nigeria’s economic environment.
The Minister also called on the Global North to prioritize infrastructure development in Africa over geopolitical concerns, advocating for increased investment in African infrastructure to support sustainable growth and development.
ESMT Berlin, a prestigious non-profit private institution founded in 2002 by 25 leading global companies, offers a variety of academic programs including Masters, MBA, and PhD courses, as well as executive education. Accredited by AACSB, AMBA, EQUIS, and FIBAA, ESMT is renowned for its focus on leadership, innovation, and analytics, with faculty members contributing significantly to top academic journals.
The scholarship program at ESMT Berlin is expected to be transformative for the selected Nigerian students, equipping them with advanced skills and knowledge that will contribute to Nigeria’s development goals. Ambassador Tuggar concluded that the program would not only enhance the students’ personal and professional growth but also support Nigeria’s broader development initiatives.
