The Class of 2024 (graduating) students of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Lagos, were on Monday, January 13, 2025, inducted into the Lagos Branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).


The Five Hundred and four (504) inductees from the following Departments of the Faculty:
- Departments of Civil and Environmental Engineering (55),
- Petroleum and Gas Engineering (51),
- Biomedical Engineering (18),
- Computer Engineering (42),
- Mechanical Engineering (66),
- Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (40),
- Chemical Engineering (72),
- Systems Engineering (59) and,
- Electrical and Electronics Engineering (101)
The ceremony held at the Main Auditorium of the Oyebolu Engineering Resource Centre, Works and Physical Planning Department of UNILAG had the theme “AI Revolution in Engineering Entrepreneurship and Nation Building”.
Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, congratulated all the inductees for their academic milestone which birthed their formal induction into the Engineering profession. She passed a vote of confidence in their abilities to address contemporary challenges through innovations which would also shape the future of humanity.
Represented by the Director, Safeguarding Centre, Professor Mopelola Olusakin, the Vice-Chancellor said “the inductees have travelled through the minds of the best brains in UNILAG hence there is no doubt about their level of competence and problem solving abilities.”
Prof. Ogunsola tasked the Engineering graduates to see themselves as products of the Future-Ready Agenda.
The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor Samson Adeosun in his remarks, said the University has set an Agenda of Engineering Excellence for the inductees. He charged them to make UNILAG proud by being innovators of local and intercontinental navigations in engineering revolution.
In his presentation, the Guest Speaker at the event, Engineer Dideolu Falobi, FNSE, spoke on Artificial intelligence as the in-thing in the Engineering profession.
He took the new inductees through an overview of AI, its indispensability in Engineering, Entrepreneurship and nation building, a list of AI initiatives in Nigeria and opportunities in AI for Engineers in Nigeria.
Highpoint of the event was the formal administering of the Oath of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) on the new inductees as well as hooding to mark their formal induction into the Engineering profession.
