Folarin Oluwaseun Rose, a resilient Nigerian student, graduated with a 4.70 CGPA in Physiotherapy from UNILAG, overcoming numerous challenges to become the second-best student in her department.
A remarkable Nigerian student, Folarin Oluwaseun Rose, has earned a degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) with an impressive 4.70/5.00 CGPA, earning her the title of second-best graduating student in her department.
Oluwaseun’s academic path was marked by determination and resilience. After finishing high school in 2013, she aspired to study at the University of Ibadan (UI) but was ineligible due to their minimum age requirement of 18. Instead, she pursued a National Diploma (ND) in Environmental Health Technology at Ogun State College of Health Technology, graduating in 2015 with distinction as the top student in her class.
Despite these early successes, she faced setbacks. Her initial UTME score of 213 fell short for admission to UI, but with persistence, she improved her score to 262. Although offered a place to study Veterinary Medicine, she declined due to her lack of interest in the field, spending two challenging years at home before redirecting her focus to Physiotherapy at UNILAG.
Oluwaseun’s journey at UNILAG was far from smooth. Starting as number nine on her class list, she doubted her ability to compete. Her struggles with mathematics in her first year and a serious illness during her second year exams tested her resolve. However, with unwavering parental support, she turned her setbacks into motivation, often studying on buses and making the reading room her second home.
External challenges such as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike and the COVID-19 pandemic further disrupted her studies, but she remained focused, overcoming every hurdle through sheer resilience and hard work.
Now a newly inducted physiotherapist, Oluwaseun looks forward to the next chapter of her life, embracing the opportunities and challenges ahead with the same determination that defined her academic journey.
Her story is a testament to the power of perseverance and serves as an inspiration to many aspiring students.
