AUN Awards Presidential Scholarship to Outstanding Government Girls Secondary School Student

The American University of Nigeria (AUN) has awarded its esteemed Presidential Scholarship to Aisha Abdullahi Nuhu, a standout student from Government Girls Secondary School, Sanda, Yola, for the Spring 2025 academic session.

Aisha, who will be pursuing a degree in Nursing, attributes her success to the AUN intervention in her school under the Girls Education Empowerment Project (GEEP), which provided her with academic support and mentorship.

Aisha’s journey to securing this prestigious scholarship was marked by dedication and perseverance under the mentorship of AUN student Zainab Ahmad Shu’aibu, who tutored her under the AUN-Atiku Institute for Development (AID) GEEP initiatives. She said the advice and guidance from her tutor in preparations for her Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and West African Examinations Council (WAEC) exams paid off as she scored 230 in JAMB and achieved excellent results in WAEC.

Reflecting on her achievement, Aisha expressed profound gratitude. “I applied for a scholarship at AUN in October after my results were released. On December 2, 2024, I received my admission letter to study Nursing,” she said excitedly. She further emphasized the impact of AUN’s inclusive approach to education: “Now I know what a development university is—not just for the rich, but a place where hard work and excellence are rewarded. If it were only for the rich, a poor girl like me wouldn’t be here.”

Aisha’s mother, Harira Umar, shared her overwhelming joy and pride. “I didn’t expect my daughter to get a scholarship, but here we are today. I’m really happy and proud of my daughter. She got a scholarship at AUN, and I advise her to study hard and make us proud.”

Her close friends and family also celebrated her achievement. Zainab Muktar Yusuf, a friend, remarked, “Aisha is an intelligent lady, and she deserves this. We will keep praying for her success.” Her cousin, Isa Modibbo Iya, added, “Many people hope for this kind of opportunity, but not everyone gets it. We pray for her achievements and success in AUN to build her future.”

Congratulating Aisha on her success, AUN President Dr. DeWayne Frazier reaffirmed the university’s commitment to empowering talented students. “Aisha’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of education and mentorship. At AUN, we are dedicated to nurturing bright minds and providing opportunities for students to achieve their dreams. We are proud to welcome her to our university for the Spring 2025 semester and look forward to seeing her excel.”
