18-Year-Old Isaiah Gomez Makes History as First Black Valedictorian at His U.S. High School with 4.80 GPA

Isaiah Gomez, an exceptional 18-year-old, made history as the first Black valedictorian of Mary Carroll High School with a 4.80 GPA, earning national recognition and admission to Harvard University to study molecular biology.

Isaiah Gomez, a brilliant 18-year-old student, has set a remarkable record by becoming the first Black valedictorian at Mary Carroll High School in the United States, graduating with an outstanding 4.80 GPA.

Isaiah’s achievement is the result of years of dedication and academic excellence, bolstered by his enrollment in numerous Advanced Placement courses. He defied societal expectations and stereotypes surrounding African Americans in academics, choosing instead to focus on excellence. “At the end of the day, I think it’s all in your head. It’s just a mind block you have to jump over eventually,” he said.

His groundbreaking accomplishment drew recognition from the Corpus Christi chapter of the NAACP, with Vice President Thea Cain calling Isaiah a “leader and role model” and emphasizing that his success symbolizes far more than academic ranking.

“I feel like it’s a huge step for my community,” Isaiah said. “This school has had many African American students, but I don’t think they’ve always been seen or supported the way they should.”

Isaiah has been accepted into Harvard University, where he plans to major in molecular biology, aiming to inspire more young Black students to pursue their dreams and break barriers.
