Ahmadu Bello University would increase the quota of students applying to study medical sciences in the institution, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, has disclosed.
Ahmed disclosed this at the 2025 Sponsio Academica for medical students. The event took place at Abdullahi Mahadi Conference Centre, Main Campus, Samaru, Zaria.
Prof Ahmed was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof Raymond B Bako.
The Vice-Chancellor explained that the decision to increase the admission quota for medical students followed securing recently of ₦4 billion Federal Government intervention for the university medical complex.
Prof Ahmed said ABU was known for its strong medical programmes and that the intervention would enable the university to admit and train more students in these fields.
He explained that the institution’s current admission quota for medicine was 180 but the university received almost 3000 applications for MBBS alone.
The Vice-Chancellor appreciated the dedication of parents, guardians, and the entire staff of the College of Medical Sciences for remaining steadfast and working hard to train the young doctors.
Prof Ahmed assured of the institution’s continued support to ensure the quality of medical training for students.
While congratulating the graduands, the Vice-Chancellor advised them to see themselves as ambassadors of ABU and always remember their alma mater anywhere they found themselves.
