The Senate of Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, has approved a revised schedule for the combined 8th and 9th convocation ceremony, now set for January 2026, moving from the original dates of November 28-29, 2025.

The decision was made during the 97th Regular meeting of Senate on October 13, led by Senate Chairman and Vice Chancellor, Prof. Shedrack Gaya Best. Prof. Best conveyed a request for the change as a result of some unforeseen circumstances.
The Senators unanimously agreed to the date change due to the consideration of the circumstances presented by the Vice-Chancellor.
Additionally, the Senate approved the establishment of 19 new undergraduate programmes commencing in the 2026/2027 academic session. This follows a proposal by the University’s Director of Academic Planning, Prof. Buba M. Wufem. The Senators unanimously approved the continuation of the establishment process for the new programmes, anticipated to launch in the 2026/2027 academic session.
The meeting also covered the recent approval by the Visitor and Governor Barr. Caleb Mutfwang for the recruitment of staff for the newly formed College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Department of Statistics, and Department of Religion and Cultural Studies. The University Registrar, Mr. Yakubu Ayuba, reported that plans are underway to advertise these positions in national dailies, encouraging qualified candidates to apply.
Prof. Best also provided an update on the ongoing admission process and expressed concerns regarding a recently initiated strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), which could disrupt the academic calendar, including the planned matriculation ceremony in November 2025.
