A 300-level UNN student, Nwankwo Chukwuebuka Chrisantus (DJ Brownlex), died alongside a driver in a car crash on the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway while traveling to Davido’s concert, leaving two others critically injured and prompting the university to urge students to avoid unnecessary night trips.
A tragic accident has claimed the life of Nwankwo Chukwuebuka Chrisantus, a 300-level student of the Department of Economics and Political Science at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). The student, popularly known as DJ Brownlex, reportedly lost his life in a road crash on his way to a concert by Afrobeats star Davido in Enugu.
According to reports, the accident occurred along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway late Saturday night. Witnesses said the vehicle carrying Brownlex and his friends collided with a stationary truck after the driver lost control of the car.
Both Brownlex and the driver were killed instantly, while two other students — Okezie Ikesianachi and Arinze Emmanuel — sustained severe injuries. The injured victims are receiving treatment at a nearby hospital and are said to be in critical but stable condition.
University and Students React
Brownlex, well-known for his lively presence and musical talent on campus, was a beloved figure in UNN’s student community. The President of the National Economics Students’ Association (NESA), Osim Philip, described the news as “a painful blow to the student body,” expressing deep sorrow over the sudden loss.
Confirming the incident, UNN Acting Public Relations Officer, Inya Agha Egwu, revealed that 10 students were involved in the trip. He added that several injured students were taken to Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka, where some have been discharged while others continue to receive medical care.
“The University Management and community deeply condole with the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased student and pray for the repose of his soul,” Egwu said. “We also wish the injured students a full and speedy recovery.”
The university further advised students to avoid unnecessary nighttime travel and to seek approval from the Student Affairs Department before embarking on trips outside the campus, emphasizing its commitment to the safety and welfare of students.
