A tragic incident has left many in shock after a final-year law student of the University of Port Harcourt, Favour Aruwa Habibatu, was reportedly murdered while visiting her boyfriend in Warri, Delta State.
According to reports, Favour, a 500-level student, travelled from Choba in Rivers State to Warri on Tuesday to see her boyfriend, Michael Ade. Residents of Ayidi Street in the Edjeba area of Warri said they saw her that evening purchasing food items. Neighbours also revealed that the couple was often seen together and appeared to be in a serious relationship.
Trouble reportedly began later that night when loud cries for help were heard coming from Michael’s apartment. Alarmed by the screams, the landlord contacted community youths and informed the police. To prevent Michael from leaving, the landlord allegedly used his own vehicle to block the suspect’s Lexus SUV.
When Michael attempted to leave the premises, claiming he had an urgent matter to attend to, the landlord and the gathered youths insisted on entering the apartment to find out what had happened. He eventually led them inside.
Upon entering the apartment, they reportedly discovered Favour lying in a pool of blood. Witnesses were left horrified by the scene, while emergency responders and police were alerted immediately.
Sources said the student had allegedly been stabbed several times. Police officers who arrived at the scene arrested Michael and evacuated the victim’s body to a morgue for further investigation.
The incident has sparked outrage among residents and students, with some neighbours speculating about possible motives behind the killing. Authorities have commenced investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic death and ensure justice is served.
