AKSU Gets New Governing Council.

The Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, Ph.D., has approved the appointment of a new Chancellor, substantive Vice Chancellor, and members of the Governing Council of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU).

In a press release issued on February 23, 2026, by the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, the Governor announced the appointment of His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon D. Etuk, JP, CFR, Oku Ibom Ibibio as the Chancellor of AKSU.
Also appointed is Professor Otoabasi E. Akpan as the substantive Vice Chancellor of the University.

As part of efforts to strengthen the institution’s governance structure, the Governor further approved the constitution of a new Governing Council for the University.
Appointed as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council is Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, CON.

Other members of the Governing Council include:

Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem
Surv. Mfoniso Essien
Lady (Barr.) Dr. Stella Udoh
Dr. Enefiok Edem

Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Education/Representative

Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Science and Digital Economy/Representative

According to the statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, the appointments take immediate effect.

The Governing Council is scheduled to be inaugurated today, Monday, February 23, 2026, at the EXCO Chamber, Governor’s Office, Uyo, by 5:00 PM

The appointments are part of ongoing efforts by the State Government to reposition strategic institutions and advance educational development in line with the administration’s ARISE Agenda.
