Augustine University has announced the appointment of Rev. Fr. Prof. Akinwale as 3rd Vice-Chancellor.


Augustine University, Ilara-Epe, Lagos, has announced the appointment of Rev. Father Professor Anthony Alaba Akinwale, OP, as its third substantive Vice-Chancellor. The announcement was made by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Sir Steve Bamidele Omojafor, and the appointment is set to take effect from September 1, 2025, upon the conclusion of the tenure of the current Vice-Chancellor, Professor Christopher Odetunde.
Rev. Fr. Akinwale, a Catholic Priest of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans), is a Professor of Systematic Theology and Thomistic Philosophy. He is widely recognised as a distinguished scholar and seasoned administrator. His academic and administrative experience spans decades, with previous roles including pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the Dominican University, Ibadan (2017–2022) and current Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Augustine University since 2023.
The Board of Trustees described his appointment as a strategic step toward reinforcing Augustine University’s commitment to academic excellence, moral integrity, and holistic student formation. Akinwale is known for his intellectual depth and dedication to the values of Catholic higher education, both within Nigeria and globally.
In a statement, the Board expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Christopher Odetunde, for his contributions, while congratulating Professor Akinwale on his new role.
